General Description:
The Call For Fire Trainer (CFFT) provides a lightweight, rapidly deployable, observed fire training system that will fulfill the need for an observed fire training device that supports all fire support missions; capable of depicting all current and future munitions and expanded to train all soldiers regardless of MOS. It simulates artillery, mortar and other fires on a variety of stationary and moving targets. The WHFRTC CFFT is a 1:12 instructor to student trainer.

Task Descriptions
Observer Location - Exercise No. 1
The objective of this exercise is for the FO/student to locate the Observation Post (OP) on his map.
The Observer Location exercise is applicable each time the FO/student occupies a new OP.
Select courseware task OBS LOC for this exercise.
The self-location exercise must be accomplished in less than three minutes. Additional time is necessary for the FO/student to orient the OF fan.
This exercise is Skill Level 1.

Direction - Exercise No. 2
The objective of this exercise is for the FO/student to determine the Direction to targets/points in his area of responsibility.
The Direction is an element of the Call For Fire and is used in making terrain sketches and other FO/student actions.
Select courseware task DIRECTION for this exercise.
The Determine Direction exercise must be accomplished in less than two minutes for each target/point. Additional time is required for the FO/student to include the information in the terrain sketch.
This exercise is Skill Level 1.

TGT By Grid Coord - Exercise No. 3
The objective of this exercise is for the FO/student to locate target/points by Grid Coordinates.
The location of a target is an essential element in the Call For Fire. Location by Grid Coordinates is the most common method of target location.

The Locate a Target by Grid Coordinates must be accomplished in less than two minutes. Additional time is required for the FO/student to include the information in the terrain sketch.
This exercise is Skill Level 1.

TGT By Polar Coord - Exercise No. 4
The objective of this exercise is for the FO/student to determine the Polar Plot data on targets in his area of responsibility.
The location of a target is an element in the Call For Fire. Locating targets by Polar Plot is a frequently used method.

The Locate a Target by Polar Plot exercise must be accomplished in less than two minutes. Additional time is required for the FO/student to include this information in the terrain sketch.

TGT By Shift - Exercise No. 5
The objective of this exercise is for the FO/student to locate Targets by Shift from a Known Point (Kn Pt) in his area of responsibility.
The location of a target is an essential element of a Call For Fire. Locating Targets by Shift is a frequently used method.

The Locate a Target by Shift from a Kn Pt exercise must be accomplished in less than two minutes. Additional time is required for the FO/student to include the information in the terrain sketch.

Adjust Area Fire - Exercise No. 6
The objective of this exercise is for the FO to Call For and Adjust Fire on an Area Target.
The Adjust Area Fire type exercise is the most common fire mission the FO will perform.

The Adjust Area Fire exercise must be accomplished within four minutes. Additional time is required for the critique of this exercise and for the FO to include the information in the terrain sketch.

Adjust Fire FZ Time - Exercise No. 7
The objective of this exercise is for the FO to Call For and Adjust Fire Fuze Time.
The Adjust Fire Fuze Time type exercise is a common fire mission used in attacking area targets when time is not critical and airbursts are required.

The Adjust Fire FZ Time exercise must be accomplished within four minutes. Additional time is required for the critique of this exercise and for the FO to include the information in the terrain sketch.

Suppression - Exercise No. 8
The objective of this exercise is for the FO to Call For and Adjust Suppression Fire on a Target.
The Suppression type fire mission is a common method of attacking a target on the battlefield.

The Suppression Fire exercise must be accomplished within four minutes. Additional time is required for the critique of this exercise and for the FO to include the information in the terrain sketch.

IMM Suppression - Exercise No. 9
The objective of this exercise is for the FO to bring Immediate Suppression fire on a Target.
Immediate Suppression missions are a common battlefield occurrence and are appropriate when a target is attacking or affecting friendly forces.

The Immediate Suppression exercise must be completed within four minutes. Additional time is required for the critique and for the FO to plot the target information in the terrain sketch.
This exercise is Skill Level 2.
Fire For Effect - Exercise No. 10
The objective of this exercise is for the FO to skip the normal adjustment phase of an exercise and bring accurate Fire For Effect on a Target with little or no adjustments.
This exercise is a frequent occurrence on the battlefield requiring a more experienced FO to bring accurate, effective fire on a target.

The Fire For Effect exercise must be accomplished within three minutes. Additional time is required for the critique of this exercise and for the FO to include the information in the terrain sketch.
This exercise is Skill Level 2.
Cord Illum - Exercise No. 11
The objective of this exercise is for the FO to conduct a Coordinated Illumination of a Target and simultaneously Adjust Fire on an Area Target.
The Coordinated Illumination exercise is a common night occurrence to enable the FO to see a target and Adjust Fire on it.
Select courseware task CORD ILLUM for this exercise.
The Coordinated Illumination exercise must be accomplished within six minutes. Additional time is required for the critique of this exercise and for the FO to include the target information in the terrain sketch.
This exercise is Skill Level 2.
Cont Illum - Exercise No. 12
The objective of this exercise is for the FO to conduct a Continuous Illumination of a Target and simultaneously Adjust Fire on an Area Target.
The Continuous Illumination exercise is a common night occurrence to enable the FO to see a target and Adjust Fire on it.

The Continuous Illumination exercise must be accomplished within six minutes. Additional time is required for the critique of this exercise and for the FO to include the target information in the terrain sketch.
This exercise is Skill Level 2.
Final Prot Fire - Exercise No. 13
The objective of this exercise is for the FO to adjust a Final Protective Fire mission.
The Final Protective Fire is a standard mission for the direct support artillery observer.

The Final Protective Fire exercise must be completed within four minutes. Additional time is required for critique of this exercise.

IMM Smoke - Exercise No. 14
The objective of Immediate Smoke exercise is for the FO to immediately obscure a target’s visibility with smoke.
Immediate Smoke is frequently needed on the battlefield to obscure a tactical maneuver or prevent the enemy from performing its mission.

The Immediate Smoke exercise must be accomplished within four minutes. Additional time is required for the critique of this exercise and for the FO to include the information in the terrain sketch.

Quick Smoke - Exercise No. 15
The objective of this exercise is for the FO to Adjust Smoke to a target that is a potential threat to obscure their visibility.
Quick Smoke is frequently needed on the battlefield to obscure the vision of a potential threat.

The Quick Smoke exercise must be completed within four minutes. Additional time is required for the critique of this exercise.

Reg Point - Exercise No. 16
The objective of this exercise is for the FO to select targets to be used as Registration Points in his area of responsibility.
It is a common practice for the FO to be required to select a Registration Point.

The Registration Point exercise must be completed within four minutes. Additional time is required for the critique of this exercise.
This exercise is Skill Level 2.
Reg Impact & Time - Exercise No. 17
The objective of this exercise is for the FO to conduct a Precision Registration with Impact and Time fuze.
The FO is directed to conduct a Precision Registration any time there is a change in ammunition lots or a significant change in the weather.

The Impact and Time Registration exercise must be completed within eight minutes. Additional time is required for the critique of this exercise.

Mortar Prec Reg - Exercise No. 18
The objective of this exercise is for the FO to conduct a Mortar Precision Registration.
The Registration of the direct support mortar unit is a common occurrence.

The Mortar Precision Registration exercise must be completed within five minutes. Additional time is required for critique of this exercise.

IRR TGT - Exercise No. 19
The objective of this exercise is for the FO to conduct fire on an Irregularly Shaped Target.
Irregular Shaped Targets are common on the battlefield.

The Irregular Shaped Target exercise must be completed within five minutes. Additional time is required for the critique of this exercise and for the FO to include the target in the terrain scene.
This exercise is Skill Level 2.
Close Air Support - Exercise No. 20
The objective of this exercise is for the FO to conduct a CAS mission.
CAS support missions are common on the battlefield.

The CAS exercise has no time restraints. Additional time is required for the critique of this exercise and for the FO to include the target in the terrain scene.

Naval Gunfire - Exercise No. 21
The objective of this exercise is for the FO to conduct Naval Gun Fire.
Naval Gunfire is common use near coastlines.
Select courseware task NAVAL GUNFIRE for this exercise.
The FO has 45 seconds to transmit the call for fire and 10 seconds for subsequent corrections. Additional time is required for the critique of this exercise and for the FO to include the target in the terrain scene.
